about me.

A man taking a mirror selfie in a room with dark green walls, holding a book in his left hand, wearing a beige shirt, black pants, sunglasses hanging from his neckline, and a black bag on his shoulder.

I’m Adam Khan, a writer, reviewer, and committed book hoarder. I write about books, culture, and whatever else I can’t stop thinking about for long enough to turn into an essay.

This site is where the longer pieces live: book reviews, essays, commentary, and the occasional attempt to make sense of things that seem slightly stranger, thinner, or less convincing the longer you sit with them.

Most of what I write starts with some small nagging thought, something I can’t quite settle and don’t quite know what I think about yet. The essays on here are usually what happens when I keep pulling at that thread until it becomes a whole piece.

I’m interested in criticism that goes a bit deeper than whether something was enjoyable or not. Why a book works. Why it doesn’t. Why some things feel sharper, richer, or more lasting than others, and why some seem to collapse the second you look at them properly. Why some things in our world are the way they are.

I read a mix of literary fiction, contemporary fiction, popular fiction, and the occasional book that seemed like a good idea at the time and then turned into a slightly odd personal project. Some reviews are straightforward. Some wander a bit. That is part of the appeal, I think.

If you’ve found your way here through Google, hello. Have a look around. You can start with my essays, browse my book reviews, or dip into some mini reviews.
